Reaching for the stars? No problem. Delta College Planetarium brings the mysteries of our universe right to Downtown Bay City. This $8.75 million facility, funded by NASA and opened on February 5, 1997, enhances science education in the Great Lakes Bay Region while entertaining its many annual visitors.
Inside this thoughtfully-designed space haven are:
- Digital 360 Degree Theatre
- 7 classrooms
- A 2-story room known as “The Space Explorer’s Hall”
- A computer lab
- Rooftop observation deck
- Gift shop
- Learning area
Purchase tickets to one of many 360 Degree Experience Planetarium Shows tailored to various age groups and interests, and blast off for a mind-blowing simulated adventure through the galaxy and beyond! Even the Delta College Planetarium’s structure is itself a metaphor for space exploration.
The Planetarium theatre is centered within the building, just like the sun in our solar system, with the brilliant red and orange exterior colors of the Planetarium representing the colors of the sun’s gases. The exterior cone shape of the Planetarium’s theatre represents a rocket exhaust nozzle, and all of the building’s windows are round, since all space objects are essentially round. While visiting the Delta College Planetarium, you’ll have access to a wealth of visitor information and assistance to help launch your trip in the right direction.
